When extreme weather hits, we rely heavily on our HVAC systems to keep us warm and comfortable through it all. At this point in the winter, our heating systems have been working nearly around the clock for several months. With all of that use, we start to see many winter HVAC failures around this time of year. Here are the most common winter HVAC repairs.
Changing Furnace Filters
We’ve all used our furnaces so much this year alone that a filter replacement is surely due by now (if you haven’t replaced yours recently already). The dust and debris that filters trap can start to reduce the airflow through your home, and it can bring your air quality down as well. If your filter looks anything like this, we recommend replacing it as soon as you reasonably can.
Standard Wear and Tear
Heating units have several replaceable parts that wear and tear over time. Annual inspections can help you make sure these parts get replaced before smaller issues turn into larger ones. If your HVAC system has not been serviced within the last several months, there is a decent chance you’ll need an experienced technician to survey your system and diagnose/ fix the failure.
Uneven Heating
It’s incredibly frustrating when parts of your home feel nice and cozy during the winter, but others feel like the Arctic Circle. Routine maintenance may fix this issue, but we like to follow up on our maintenance with checks for cracks and/or drafts that could contribute to the problem.
Thermostat Issues
Thermostat issues throughout the winter are prevalent. Often, a thermostat recalibration or rewiring will restore your home to a comfortable temperature in no time at all. Sometimes, it can be even easier than that with a simple battery replacement!
