We often turn to the internet when we experience HVAC troubles, but there is a lot of misinformation to be found! Be sure to avoid these four HVAC myths to keep your unit running as long as possible and save money all the while.
Myth 1: Set your thermostat to the lowest temperature for faster cooling.
We’ve all arrived from home after a hot summer day in need of some rapid cooling. In an attempt to make your home as cold as possible as soon as possible, you may have set the thermostat to the lowest setting in the past. Regardless of the temperature you set, your air conditioning will work at the same pace, meaning you should simply set it to a temperature of your preference.
Myth 2: Keeping up with filter replacements isn’t important.
It’s easy to overlook the recommended replacement time span for your HVAC filters, but we highly recommend avoiding this mistake. Without routine air filter replacements, particles, dust and dirt are sure to make their way into the air you breathe.
Myth 3: If your AC is working, it doesn’t need maintenance.
If your home has a newer AC unit, you may feel that paying to have it maintained would be a waste. However, routine maintenance now is what will keep your new unit reliable and functional for years to come. Additionally, even if your unit is functional, it’s entirely possible that it isn’t performing at its peak capacity if you haven’t serviced it for a few years.
Myth 4: You should turn off your AC after leaving your home.
On paper, it makes sense why you would want to turn off your AC after leaving for the day. You won’t be at home, so why pay to keep it cool? In our observations, it will end up costing you more since the unit will have to work harder to cool the space back down once you arrive back home. Instead, simply bump up the temperature a few degrees before you leave for the day.
